We didn't booked so we arrived early for a early dinner at around 5:30pm. We managed to secure a seat before those reserved arrived. The service is 5 star. The food is real genuine Japanese style (been to Japan for 10 times so I can tell), not those made up, "japan-inspired" stuff you would normally found in the UK. Highly recommend for those who miss Japanese sushi and unagi rice. The price is very good too. 正宗日本菜,最緊要好抵食,高質!
We love Japan so couldn't resist eating here while we stayed nearby. We were not disappointed. Delicious food at a reasonable price. Friendly and welcoming, we hope to return soon.
Had a lovely time at this new restaurant, it’s a small venue so recommend booking it advance. We didn’t have any problems getting a seat during our visit, but will book in future. Highly recommend paying a visit, the food did not disappoint, it was fresh, especially the sashimi and I would rate the food as one of the best in Cardiff. The attention to detail and pride in presentation has not gone unnoticed and the taste match how well it looked. Staff was very friendly and thank you for a lovely evening. Will definitely be returning.
It doesn't need to be in a fancy restaurant to have great foods, and this Japanese cafe is just that. Had the pleasure of tasting the spicy pork ramen, three types of tamaki (salmon skin, eel and prawn), chicken wings, and crispy prawn in breadcrumbs. Everything was delicious. Felt at home with a friendly service. Such a lovely little gem with authentic foods served to a high standard. Since then, we have been trying other dishes like grilled eel uramaki, california uramaki, char siu bun, gyoza, beef shank, and finished with happy tummies.
A truly wonderful experience. The food was sensational and you can taste the love and care that is put into making it. Both the chef and hostess are generally lovely people. It was an honour to dine here. We were a group of 4, celebrating my daughters birthday. The hostess made it very special and truly memorable. We will be back as soon as we can. Thank you.

We came to Don Don Yatai for lunch during the Christmas period. I had been craving noodles for a while but had previously been disappointed by other Japanese restaurants so I was very nervous about eating here......however, I was absolutely blown away. The service was amazing from the offset, the lady serving us gave us recommendations and was extremely accommodating. The starters were divine and the main was even better. We were blown away with everything. Everything is reasonably priced and you can tell this restaurant is fuel with love for cooking. I would highly recommend
